Chris Hughes, publisher and editor-in-chief of The New Republic and Facebook co-founder, will speak at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ on Wednesday, October 23, in the New University Union at 6pm.
Hughes will talk about how social media has transformed the communication landscape. He co-founded Facebook in 2004, working first as the site’s spokesperson and later leading the product and user experience team. Within four years, working mostly part-time, Hughes vaulted into the ranks of being a multi-millionaire. He wasn't quite 23 years old.
Hughes quit Facebook in early 2007 to work for a candidate named Barack Obama as his director of online organizing. He revolutionized the use of the Web as a political tool during Obama’s campaign in 2007-08 by raising more than $500 million. Fast Company called him, “The kid who made Obama president.”
Earlier in 2012, Hughes purchased of a majority stake in magazine, a nearly century-old magazine that helped define modern American liberalism.
