Allen Gove, professor emeritus of the Department of Music, died on June 23 after suffering from two strokes. A memorial in his honor will be held on Sunday, July 24, from 3–5 p.m. in the music building on ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥’s Hayward campus.
Gove began his career at then-Cal State Hayward in 1966. He served as department chair from 1974 through 1981, and retired in 1992 after nearly 30 years on campus. During that time, Gove established a chamber music program and supporting library.
Gove was a cellist who remained musically active throughout his life, and according to family, was still playing chamber music, creating special arrangements and giving cello lessons in his home studio up until the time he entered the hospital on June 11.
