- August 26, 2015
ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Associate Professor Bradley Porfilio has been honored with two critics’ choice book awards from the American Educational Studies Association for works he co-edited.
Porfilio, the director of the doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice, was recognized for “See You at the Crossroads: Hip Hop Scholarship at the Intersections” and “Dangerous Counterstories in the Corporate Academy.”
“It is an honor to receive two Critics’ Choice Awards from the American Educational Studies Association,” Porfilio said. “The Association is committed to disseminating outstanding scholarship dedicated to fostering social justice and equity in schools and the wider society.”
“See You at the Crossroads,” which Porfilio published in 2014 with co-editors Debangshu Roychoudhury and Lauren M. Gardner, is a collection of essays that contributes to the field of hip-hop studies. The essays reveal the harmony with which those involved in hip-hop work together toward social justice. Several leading scholars in hip-hop studies provide insight to the culture.
“Dangerous Counterstories” is a collection of 13 critical narratives that Porfilio co-edited with Emily A. Daniels in 2013. The book sheds light on how colleges and universities across North America make it increasingly difficult to promote critical thinking and how initiatives dedicated to eliminating injustice are blocked or thwarted.
