ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥'s Gabe Kindred has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association "Men's Basketball Player of the Week" for Nov. 4-10. He's the first honoree of the 2013-14 season by the CCAA.
A senior guard, Kindred had the two highest scoring nights of his Pioneer career Nov. 8 and 9, and was remarkably efficient doing it. On Friday night, he set personal bests with 23 points and a .727 shooting percentage (8-for-11) in ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥'s loss to Academy of Art.
He out-did himself the following night despite a dramatic double-overtime loss to Dominican University. The Oakland native poured in 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out six assists in 46 minutes before fouling out near the end of the second overtime.
For the weekend, Kindred averaged 23.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He shot 60.9 percent from the field, knocked down 15 of 22 free throws, and also had four steals. Afterwards, he was named to the PacWest/CCAA Men's Basketball Challenge All-Tournament team.
Kindred was the Pioneers' leading scorer during the 2012-13 season, topping the 20-point mark three times. He's the first CSUEB men's basketball player to win CCAA Player of the Week since teammate Mark Samuels did it during the 2011-12 season.
