HAYWARD -- Hayward police are hosting a law enforcement forum Saturday at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥. The theme is "Building Bridges -- Police and Community."
The keynote speaker will be Terrill Swift, who was convicted of murder in Chicago and cleared years later thanks to DNA evidence. Other featured speakers include San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr and Bishop Jerry Macklin, pastor of Hayward's Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ. Macklin serves on the Prison Fellowships national board, and his church has worked to revitalize the troubled south Hayward neighborhood.
The free event, which is open to the public, begins with a reception and registration at 7:30 a.m., with the forum starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. It takes place at the University Theatre, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
The forum is sponsored by the Hayward, Union City, Oakland and BART police departments; ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ public safety department; and the Alameda County probation department.
