Homecoming 2013 celebrates five decades of Pioneer spirit
- February 1, 2013
Recognizing the dedication of “Pioneers for Life,” ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ invites alumni, students and community members to celebrate this year’s Homecoming together Feb. 8 and 9.
Kicking off the festivities, the Homecoming Parade will tour the Hayward campus at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. Campus departments, clubs and organizations will show off their floats on the route, which ends at the Pioneer Gym for a BBQ courtesy of Student Life and Leadership Programs.
The annual East Bay Idol competition to choose a student to sing the National Anthem at the homecoming game is being held on YouTube this year. Judges will select a winner based on a combination of the number of video “likes” and the best talent.
The Saturday celebration begins with the Pioneer Alumni social, hosted by the Alumni Association, from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 9 at ME Restaurant & Lounge, 926 B Street in downtown Hayward. The party will feature appetizers, drink specials and entertainment, including music from DJ Young Soul (alumnus Ansel Troy ’07). Attendees will also receive free tickets to the evening’s basketball games.
Guests at the social are encouraged to wear vintage clothing from Cal State Hayward/East Bay/Alameda State College or to dress in the style of a decade of Pioneer history (1950s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s or ’90s). Awards will be given for the best costume from each decade.
Alumni and families should RSVP online at or contact alumni@csueastbay.edu or 510.885.2877 with questions.
The Homecoming basketball games pit the Pioneers against CSU Los Angeles Golden Eagles. Games begin at 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer Gym .
