One day after being honored as player and pitcher of the week by the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Kyle Zozaya and Sean Becker received even more awards Feb. 26 for their performances last weekend.

Becker has been named West Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the week of Feb. 18-24. In just his third start in a Pioneer uniform, Becker tossed an absolute gem on Sunday that, frankly, might be the best-pitched game we see all year. He breezed through the CSU Stanislaus batting order, striking out nine in a complete game shutout victory. The junior right-hander was ahead in counts all day and ended up throwing 78 percent of his pitches for strikes as he allowed just one Warrior batter to reach second base the entire game.

Zozaya was named NCBWA West Region Player of the Week for Feb. 18-24 after powering the Pioneers to a series victory over Cal State Stanislaus. The senior from Hollister was nearly impossible to get out, reaching base 11 times in four games and driving in seven runs. His .647 batting average and 1.059 slugging percentage led all West Region players for the week. His final swing of the series was his most memorable, as Zozaya capped off an 8-0 win by blasting a two-run homer into the left field trees at Pioneer Field.

These are the first two NCBWA West Region honors for the 2013 ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ baseball team.
