HAYWARD -- A free family skate session is planned for Jan. 12 at Sunset Adult School.

Residents should bring their own skates, though a limited number will be available to be checked out on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be music, games, a raffle and snacks for sale.

The skating runs noon to 4 p.m. in the school's gymnasium, 22100 Princeton St.

The free skating event is sponsored by Hayward Area Recreation and Park District and Skating for Kids Achievement Through Exercise (S.K.A.T.E.), a ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ student-run club.

The club's goal is to create free and low-cost recreational activities on and off campus, and to promote a healthy lifestyle.

S.K.A.T.E. is seeking donations for the raffle as well as used roller or in-line skates to be used at future Hayward Family Skates. Donations may be sent or taken to the park district's office, 1099 E St., Hayward. For more information, call 510-317-2303.
