Hayward talk to focus on perils to black middle class

HAYWARD -- Economic threats to the middle class, especially African-Americans, will be examined at a free talk Saturday.
Benjamin P. Bowser, professor emeritus at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥, will discuss the historic context and outline questions surrounding a new, still developing, middle class and the role African-Americans will play. Bowser is author of the book "The Black Middle Class: Social Mobility -- and Vulnerability."
The talk, scheduled during Black History Month, is being presented by the Hayward Area Historical Society in collaboration with the Women's Ministry of Palma Ceia Baptist Church and the South Bay Chapter of the Links. It takes place at 5 p.m. at Palma Ceia Baptist Church, 28605 Ruus Road, Hayward.
