To celebrate Homecoming 2012, the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Alumni Association and Pioneer Athletics are sponsoring a “tailgate” party for alumni and their families from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 in downtown Hayward.

The party begins at , 926 B St. near Mission Blvd., before the first of two Pioneer basketball games. The event is free with a no-host bar and will feature family-friendly entertainment with a DJ and magicians as well as tailgate-style snacks and no-host drink specials. There will also be a free raffle with “Pioneer Pride” prizes.

Attendees will receive free tickets to that evening’s games against the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs and will have the opportunity to meet Pioneer coaches, student-athletes, mascot Pioneer Pete and the cheer squad.

The Homecoming celebration will continue with the basketball double header, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Gym. Alumni are encouraged to wear vintage Cal State Hayward or East Bay gear for a historic show of Pioneer Pride over the decades.

This year's Homecoming Court will be crowned at halftime during the women’s game. The University’s first basketball team will join their coach, Bill Vandenburgh, for recognition at the men’s halftime.
