After completing her undergraduate degree, Clare received her teaching credential from ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥, where she later earned her master’s degree in psychology. Clare taught for 19 years at Patterson Elementary School in Fremont, Calif. She resigned her teaching position to become a full time psychoanalyst with a practice in San Francisco. In 1999, Clare moved her practice to Napa in order to be closer to family.
Clare lived a deep, meaningful life raising her children and enriching their lives, teaching hundreds of kindergartners, participating in, leading and directing the Guild for Psychological Studies, working in psychoanalysis with her clients and, in turn, loving her grandchildren and assuring their exposure to the arts.
Clare is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mac; son, Max McCaslin of San Leandro, son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Lindy McCaslin of Hyampom, and daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Roy Barush of Napa; grandchildren, Jennifer Manley of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Jesse and Benjamin Barush, of Napa. Clare is also survived by her siblings, Paul and Mary Engstrom of Los Altos, Hazel and the late Leslie Venables, of Stanwood, Wash., and Anne and the late Craig Lively, of Tappan, N.Y.
Clare’s family wishes to thank Anne O. for her ongoing moral support, cousin, Steve M. for his loving presence, Clare and Mac’s warm, caring neighbors and Kaiser Hospice’s Kathy T. and Peggy S. for their attentive, gentle care.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Clare’s life on Oct. 30, at 1 p.m., at Congregation Beth Shalom, 1455 Elm St., Napa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Aldea Children & Family Services, Napa, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Nyack, N.Y., or an organization of your choice.
