Pioneers fall in CCAA opener at San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ men's basketball team opened CCAA play with a 79-54 loss at San Francisco State on Dec. 3. The Pioneers (1-3, 0-1 CCAA) shot 33.3 from the field and were out-rebounded by the Gators, 45-32.
San Francisco State (4-1, 2-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Tim Pratt with 18 points. Nefi Perdomo and Phoenix O'Rourke scored 16 apiece, with O'Rourke going 4-for-6 from three-point range.
Mark Samuels scored a team-high 17 points and led East Bay on the boards with seven rebounds while dishing out three assists and notching three steals. George Toyama scored nine points and pulled down three boards in the losing effort.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early five point lead with 16:45 remaining. With the Pioneers clinging to a 12-11 advantage, the Gators went on a 7-0 run to take an 18-12 lead. A pair of lay ups by Samuels cut the Gators lead to 23-22. O'Rourke nailed a three-pointer with 1:12 remaining as San Francisco State outscored East Bay 13-1 to take a 13-point halftime lead.
The second half saw the Gators open up a 53-33 advantage with 14:53 left. San Francisco State had its biggest lead of the game 77-49 with 2:12 remaining.
East Bay will play at Cal State Monterey Bay on Dec. 4 in Seaside. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
