Pioneers take second in season-opening Sonoma State Invitational

Santa Rosa, Calif. - A solid team performance enabled the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ men's golf team to finish second at the Sonoma State Invitational on Sept. 21. The Pioneers finished the three rounds with a team score of 33-over-par 879, 17 strokes behind tournament winner Sonoma State.
The event, held at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club, consisted of five teams. East Bay defeated Notre Dame de Namur, Academy of Art and Dominican, shooting a one-over-par 286 in the third and final round.
Wes Davis was the Pioneers' top golfer at the event, tying one other golfer for fifth place with a two-over 218 for the three rounds.
Nick Allen finished in a three-way tie for seventh place with a three-over 219. Allen tied Andy Quintero for the Pioneers' lowest round of the tournament, shooting a two-under 70 in round two. Quintero placed 11th overall with a three-round score of 221, finishing strong with a 70 in the final round.
AJ Warren finished in a 14th place with an eight-over 224. Warren notched his best score with a one-under par-71 on Tuesday. JD Brewer rounded out the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ group, placing 17th overall with a three-round score of 231 and taking 11 strokes off his round one score with an even 72 on the final day.
The Pioneers will continue the fall slate next week when they travel to Bellingham, Wash., for the Western Washington Invitational. First round action begins on Sept. 27 at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
