Five commencement ceremonies – four for each of the colleges on the university’s Hayward Campus and one for students who have attended classes at the Concord Campus – will recognize the academic achievement of 3,755 students earning their bachelor’s degree and 1,309 more earning master’s and doctoral degrees.

The College of Science will stage the first commencement at 6 p.m. Friday, June 11, followed by the graduation ceremony for the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (9 a.m.) and the College of Business and Economics (3 p.m.) Saturday, June 12.

On Sunday, June 13, ceremonies for CSUEB’s College of Education and Allied Studies will take place at 2 p.m.  Pioneer Stadium is the site of the four ceremonies on the Hayward Campus, located at 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.

CSUEB’s Concord Campus will celebrate the graduation of nearly 300 students at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Boatwright Sports Complex on that campus, at 4700 Ygnacio Valley Road, Concord.
Two individuals who have been staunch supporters of higher education will be honored at CSUEB commencements. They are:

  • Yuri Kochiyama, a Japanese American human rights activist who has dedicated her life to social change through her participation in social justice and human rights movements, will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters at ceremonies for the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences; and
  • Jack Acosta, a prominent Bay Area businessman and East Bay philanthropist, will be presented with an honorary doctor of humane letters at ceremonies for the university’s College of Business and Economics.

Sil Garaventa Jr., an East Bay businessman and philanthropist, originally had been scheduled to accept an honorary doctor of humane letters degree at the Concord Campus ceremonies. He will be honored at ceremonies to be held at a later date.
