Veteran teachers named high school principals

Veteran Palo Alto teacher and administrator, Phil Winston, has been named the new principal at Palo Alto high school.

Winston began his teaching career in the Milpitas Unified School District where he taught for six years. In 2005 he joined the Palo Alto district as a teacher at JLS Middle School. In 2006 he was named dean of students at Gunn, becoming an assistant principal in 2007.

Winston received his bachelor's degree in psychology from ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥, Hayward, and a master's in special education and a master's in educational administration from Santa Clara University.

Winston's duties at Gunn have included developing and monitoring the school budget, coordinating campus supervisors, discipline, field trips, special testing arrangements, supervising substitute teachers, monitoring attendance and tracking textbooks.
