McShane's Grand Slam Lifts Pioneers Over Cal State LA

HAYWARD, Calif. - James McShane broke a 5-5 tie with a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth lifting ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ past Cal State Los Angeles 9-7 on April 30.
McShane, who drove in six runs, has three home runs and 10 RBI in his last two games.
"I’m seeing the ball well right now," McShane said. "I want to go out on a good note following a four-year playing career for the Pioneers."
Pioneer starting pitcher Matt McCormick held Cal State Los Angeles hitless through five innings. McCormick gave up a hit in the sixth and allowed five runs, one earned and scattered five hits in 7.2 innings. He ended up with a no decision.
The Pioneers led 2-0 after three innings on a pair of run scoring singles by Nick McManus. Devin Grigg led off the fourth inning with a bunt single, had a pair of stolen bases and scored on McShane’s sacrifice fly as East Bay increased its lead to 3-0.
East Bay took a commanding 5-0 advantage as Levi Josewski led off the sixth inning with his 13th home run of the season and McShane hit his second sacrifice fly of the game.
The Golden Eagles parlayed three singles to score their first run of the game in the seventh inning.
Cal State Los Angeles took advantage of two Pioneer errors to tie the game with four runs in the eighth inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, McShane hit a 1-0 fast ball over the left field fence to give the Pioneers a 9-5 lead. The Eagles scored twice in the top of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate, but Grigg got Brendan McQuaid on a groundout to end the game.
Grigg, who picked up the win improving his record to 4-1 for the season, was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple, and three runs scored. McManus was also 3-for-4 at the plate.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 1 at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥. The first pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
