HAYWARD, Calif. - Pioneer hurler Paul Jinkens tied a school record with 15 strikeouts in a game as East Bay defeated Cal Poly Pomona 4-1 in the first game of a CCAA doubleheader on April 17.
Jinkens was in complete control as he went the distance to improve his record to 4-3 for the season. His 15 strikeouts tied the program record, set by Randy Rambis against Pacific in 1977.

With two runners aboard and the tying run at the plate in the eighth, Jinkens proceeded to strikeout the Broncos' one through three hitters.
"I had to get it done," Jinkens said. "One swing of the bat and the game is tied."
The Broncos 1-7 hitters were a combined 3-for-26 with 13 strikeouts against Jinkens.
East Bay scored single runs in the first and second innings. Stephen Gatehouse had a sacrifice fly in the second. The Pioneers played well defensively committing no errors.
"Our defense really supported me today," Jinkens said. "We played a much better tempo on defense."
In the second game, the Pioneers jumped out a 3-0 lead in the first as Sharrer doubled to score a pair of runs.
Cal Poly Pomona went on to score 10 unanswered runs to win the second game, 10-6.
