CSUEB Falls in Extras, Plays to 7-7 Tie in Doubleheader with Simpson

HAYWARD, Calif. - The ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ baseball team lost the first game of a doubleheader to Simpson University by the score of 10-6 in 11 innings. The second game was called due to darkness after eight innings with the score tied 7-7 .

In the first game, Simpson scored four runs in the 10th inning highlighted by a pair of RBI singles off the bats of Arason Perry and Shane Battles.  The Red Hawks tied the game with a run in the eighth inning.

ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ took a 6-5 lead in the sixth on a three-run home run by Levi Josewski.

Nick McManus and Jake Walter each had three hits for the Pioneers. Simpson’s Joshua Corson was 5 for 6 at the plate with three runs scored. Ricky Hogan pitched 4.1 scoreless innings and recorded seven strikeouts to pick up the victory.

In the second game, the Pioneers took a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Simpson struck for three runs in the top of the fourth while ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth as Devin Grigg’s groundout scored Stephen Gatehouse. Simpson scored three runs in the top of the sixth highlighted by a two-run single by Julian Goodin.

The Pioneers closed the gap to 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth as Nick McManus singled and later scored on a double off the bat of Charlie Sharrer.

ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Josewski opened the inning with a base hit. After McManus struck out swinging, Josh Rush walked. After Sharrer struck out, pinch hitter John Howard singled to left field scoring Josewski.

Gatehouse was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored for the Pioneers. Grigg drove in a pair of runs. Simpson’s Rico Adams had two hits and drove in three runs.

The Pioneers, 2-7-1 for the season, will host Patten University on Monday, February 22 at 2 p.m.
