By now, you likely have seen news of a new GenAI service and large language model named DeepSeek that is poised to compete against the likes of ChatGPT. Based in Beijing, the company has made news as much for its large language model training approach and potential for reducing GPU resources needed as its function of copying data to locations in China.
As with any AI service, ITS would like to remind users:
- Do not: Upload personal, proprietary, or confidential information that could violate , state or federal privacy laws, including HIPAA (related to health and medical records) and FERPA (linked to student educational records), or expose East Bay data (levels 1 and 2) when using GenAI.
- Do: Review CSUEB's web page on GenAI tools and services as well as our general AI guidelines for information on what the University currently offers and is available to our community.
